Financing Your Start-up Business
Presented by: Paula A. Sinozich, attorney, Connors Morgan Sinozich, PLLC
Martin A. Sinozich, member, Venn Capital, LLC
Over 600,000 businesses open each year in the United States, and they all face the same challenge – how do you fund a new business?
Do you have to have your own money? Can it all be borrowed? Can you offer stock to fund your new business? If you invite investors in, what do you have to give up?
Paula and Martin will answer the questions that many business start-ups have and shake loose many of the myths about how to finance new businesses.
Participants will gain a better understanding of which types of financing are better suited to which types of businesses, what lenders and investors are looking for in a business plan, and business and legal approaches to financing structures.

Paula Sinozich is a business attorney at Connors Morgan Sinozich, PLLC, with experience in start-ups, mergers and acquisitions, commercial leasing, employment contracts, and debtor /creditor issues. She has experienced “first hand” the types of challenges that business owners encounter in starting, growing, and funding their companies – and then managing them for optimum cash flow and growth. She currently serves as co-chair of the Piedmont Business Ethics Award, Secretary-Treasurer for the Society of Financial Services Professionals, Greensboro chapter, and board member of the Womens Professional Forum Foundation and Crescent Rotary Club. She is a founding member of “GROW” (Generating Resources for Outstanding Women), and a member of 85 Broads.
A graduate of the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary, she also holds a bachelor’s degree from Marshall University and a master’s degree from the University of Virginia. Prior to obtaining her law degree, she worked in the communications field with lobbyists and nonprofits, including the National Association of Manufacturers, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, the Water Pollution Control Federation, and the American Society of Training and Development. She has authored several articles in the American Jurisprudence 2d series, and lectures frequently on topics that concern the small business owner.

Martin Sinozich is a Managing Member of Venn Capital, a local private investment company, and an active member of the Piedmont Angel Network (PAN) funds which are member-managed early-stage committed capital investment funds. Sinozich and his partners own, operate, and have active investments in Triad-based retail, financial services, construction, and manufacturing firms. They also hold commercial and residential real estate.
Martin is also the owner and operator of two local Planet Fitness franchises. Prior to moving to the Triad in 2004, Sinozich served in Operations and problem-solving assignments at leading financial services firms such as Fidelity Investments, MBNA America, and Prudential Home Mortgage. Sinozich also served in senior management teams at two Internet companies during “the boom”. Sinozich received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, where he was an Echols Scholar.
